You may have received an email from Companies House alerting you to a recent breach in relation to Webfiling.
Companies House have reported that it was “made aware of a security issue which meant that a logged-in user of our WebFiling service could potentially access and change some elements of another company’s details without their consent after performing a specific set of actions”.
Companies House have made it clear that passwords were not compromised, identity verification data was not accessible and no filed documents could be altered.
There is also no indication that the issue would have permitted the ability to extract data in large volumes.
What should companies do now?
There are currently no reports of data being accessed or edited by others, but you should check all information including registered details and filing history that you have on Companies House to ensure that it is still accurate.
