Menstruation affects half the world’s population for a very significant part of their life.

Despite this, there is a stigma attached to talking openly about menstruation, especially at work and over a third of women have experienced period shaming in the workplace.

Menstrual conditions can cause disruptive physical and/or emotional symptoms before and during menstruation.

Three in four of those going through menopause experience symptoms and for one in four, symptoms are severe: from physical symptoms like hot flushes to psychological ones like stress, anxiety and loss of confidence.

This can have a huge impact on people’s lives both in and out of work.

Breaking the taboo about menstruation and menopause promotes gender equity and ensures that female colleagues feel supported and valued at work.

Menstruation and Menopause Friendly Business Scheme

The Menstruation and Menopause Friendly Business Scheme is about supporting every member of our workforce, making their wellbeing a priory and helping them to be the best that they can be at work.

This means making reasonable adjustments to working practices and empowering employees to be open about their experiences.

The Menstruation Friendly Accreditation and the Menopause Friendly Accreditation are the industry recognised markers of excellence for companies supporting menstruation and menopause at work.

Applications are reviewed rigorously by an independent panel of experts to make sure that organisations are actively supporting menstruation and menopause at work.
