Tax Assistant

We are looking for a motivated school leaver to join our Tax Team as part of our ATT training programme. The Role

As a Tax Assistant, you’ll learn the foundations of tax while helping our team with real client work. This is a great alternative to university and a perfect opportunity if you enjoy numbers, problem solving, or simply want a career that offers long term stability and progression solving or simply want a career that offers long-term stability and progression.

You will:

  • Start your ATT Foundation qualification
  • Slowly build your tax knowledge through online study modules
  • Receive lots of support from our training coordinator, study champion and your manager
  • Move onto ATT Level 4, and later CTA, as you grow in confidence

Hybrid working becomes available once you’ve settled in and passed your probation.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll start with clear, guided tasks that help you build confidence from day one and as your skills grow, so will your responsibilities. Early examples include:

  • Getting hands‑on with personal tax returns, learning how to prepare real documents that clients rely on.
  • Supporting the creation of simple rental accounts, giving you insight into how property income is recorded and managed.
  • Helping the team with key admin tasks, such as gathering client information and organising documents, essential skills for smooth tax workflows.
  • Learning how tax forms are submitted, giving you a step‑by‑step understanding of how information moves between clients, the team, and HMRC.
  • Communicating professionally with clients and HMRC, by email or phone, with plenty of support as you build confidence.
  • Using structured checklists and templates to learn calculations and processes, helping you understand each step clearly.
  • Developing your ability to analyse basic financial information, becoming more confident with numbers and their real‑world meaning.

As you develop, you’ll gradually take on more complex work and you may even help guide newer trainees, sharing the knowledge you’ve built along the way.

No specialist knowledge needed – just basic confidence with:

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum 120 UCAS points (or 300 UCAS points for exams before 2017) or equivalent.
  • GCSEs: Minimum Grade 6 in Maths and English Language and Grade 4 in all other subjects (or B in Maths and English Language and C in all other subjects for exams before 2017) or equivalent.
  • Must have completed A-levels within the past 2 years or be currently completing their A-levels.
  • Right to work in the UK.
