Chancellor confirms Budget Date day

Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond will give his first Autumn Budget speech on Wednesday 22 November, Government has announced.

It will be the second of two Budget dates this year, after the Chancellor cancelled the Spring Budget indefinitely in March.

Instead, the Autumn Budget will become the main fiscal focal point, with a Spring Statement responding to changes later on in the tax year.

However, he said the Government would retain the option to make changes to fiscal policy in spring if circumstances require it.

Mr Hammond said the Budget was “one of the most important dates in the parliamentary calendar”.

“It’s also when we set out our thinking on how to keep the economy strong and resilient and fair. An economy that works for everyone,” he said.

“I can announce today that this autumn’s Budget will be held on November the 22nd.”
